Urbanization – a welcome macrotrend

Urbanization is taking place around the world, with dramatic shifts most apparent in the developing regions. It is a welcome trend for ASSA  ABLOY as it brings with it higher demand for security products and systems.

The United Nations predicts that 66 percent of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, with nearly 90 percent of the increase concentrated in Asia and Africa.

With large populations moving into cities, many countries are grappling to meet the infrastructure, housing, education and employment needs of a more urban population. At the same time, urbanization is largely a welcome trend as more than 80 percent of global GDP is generated in cities.

Today, emerging markets are urbanizing faster than the developed countries of Europe and North America, and urbanization in these emerging markets especially, with their rising middle class, presents plenty of opportunities for multinational companies like ASSA ABLOY.

One key to capturing the increasingly urban global market is to leverage global strength while meeting local needs with specific products.
