The locking giant believes in digital keys

ASSA ABLOY takes a step further into the digital world and invests in the radio technology NFC. - We se it as an opporunity as much as a threat. Today we sell the physical access card, but we could also sell the service and let the user download a viritual card to his telephone, says Anders Borg, head of software development at ASSA ABLOY. At two Sofitel hotels in Paris the subsidiary Vingcard today performs a test were regular guests check in via sms, pass the reception queue and unlock the room with their telephones. Anders Borg thinks that it will take several years before this solution becomes common, because currently its requires the hotel to make agreements with every telephone operator that the guests use for their telephones.
