Today’s experiments, tomorrow’s solutions
The next generation of electronic security solutions is being developed in a new exciting forum – the ASSA ABLOY Future Lab.
At the ASSA ABLOY Future Lab, security managers, distribution partners and end users can discuss technical development. Products and concepts are tested here in collaboration with clients and partners, and news and reports are published on technical advances in security solutions for door environments. The ASSA ABLOY Future Lab offers the latest information on locks and entry systems, and has a forum where members can exchange views regarding development and new products, concepts and solutions. The aim of the Future Lab is to conduct cutting-edge product development that meets future expectations, with the help of committed clients and partners.
The website was launched in October 2005. Registered members have access, among other things, to the Security Trend Report. This report focuses on security in general and the e-cylinder in particular, and presents the results from discussions with 260 opinion-makers from the global security industry. Four general security trends have been distinguished: increased security needs, biometric solutions, combined electronics and mechanics, and integration and convergence. The report includes an interesting summary of future security development scenarios.
Members also have access to the Fingerprint Matching Technology Review, which was recently published. This report from the ASSA ABLOY Identification Technology Group includes a review of technologies for fingerprint sensors and the production of templates for fingerprint reading. The article includes a technology review but offers no detailed product comparison, since product specifications can quickly become obsolete.
ASSA ABLOY Future Lab publish a bi-monthly newsletter with information on new and future technology and industry trends that may affect people’s attitudes to electronic door solutions today and in the future. Since the ASSA ABLOY Future Lab’s launch in October, two newsletters have been issued that discuss new findings in biometrics and open standards for the security industry.
Members are also invited to participate in concept tests of new security solutions. One such test, initiated in mid-December 2005, examines how intelligent doors can help make tomorrow’s security solutions even safer and more flexible. The results of this test will be published for the ASSA ABLOY Future Lab’s members in early 2006.
