Secure your summer

Secure your summer

The Nordic countries look forward to summer, naturally enough. The warm days and the light evenings draw people out of their homes to their summer cottages and boats. But this is also the worst season for break-ins and thefts of leisure-time equipment.

A new pocket-sized brochure from Abloy can help people enjoy their summers more by securing their leisure housing, boats and equipment.

Apart from taking expensive items back to their summer cottages, many people simply forget about basic security. Often the most valuable items are not even kept inside the cottage, but somewhere outside or in a shed. Boats and jet skis return to the shore, outboard motors are taken out of their storerooms and trailers are revealed as the snowdrifts melt. Two-wheeled vehicles are another certain sign of a Nordic summer as bicycles, mopeds, scooters and motor bikes emerge from hibernation.

Building sites are also favorite targets for thieves. They can simply load a trailer found on the site with all the machines and tools there, and drive off without anyone paying attention. All these items can and should be secured with locks. The locks can also be master-keyed, either to an existing locking system or to a new, individual system.

EVEN IF THIEVES STILL STRIKE, proper security makes it easier to claim for damages from your insurance company, if you can prove that the item was secured. With bicycles, an approved lock is often required (conditions vary between different countries).

Abloy Oy has been promoting the issue of leisure-time locking and summer security as a way to increase sales. These normally rise each spring, but still need to be boosted. The new brochure, with lots of useful information, was distributed at the OmaKoti house-building and renovation exhibition in Helsinki, Finland, at the beginning of April. The Abloy booth had an exhibition board featuring the photographs from the brochure, perfectly illustrating the message of summer security. The company will also move into export markets with the same message, because the same security needs can be found in any country.

Summer security suits perfectly with the ASSA ABLOY theme, Unlock Your Life. When your summer home and leisure-time equipment is secure, you can relax and enjoy your vacation.
