Director, Operations

The Director, Operations role provides operational leadership, strategic planning, and guidance to the Customer Service, Purchasing & Inventory and Distribution teams. The capability and capacty to envision the strategic direction while delivering on the day-to-day tactics to meet monthly targets is a key aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct the operations teams to ensure all orders and deliveries to our customers are performed according to time, quality, efficiency and accuracy standards while delivering on set monthly objectives; 

Develop and deploy effective strategies and ensure organizational alignment;

Provide and develop technology know-how in the leading customer service, inventory and distribution techniques available to maintain competitive advantage;

Provide strong leadership to the teams with a heavy emphasis on employee involvement and team building;

Grow the operation’s strategy to become rooted in Lean methods and employee involvement, to ensure continuous improvement of the Company’s competitive position and the profitability of the operations;

Establish processes utilizing Lean philosophy in distribution, capacity planning, scheduling, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction;

Ensure the Company’s resources and efforts are focused on achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction, quality, profitability, productivity, delivery, and safety;

Promote superior customer satisfaction and response;

Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries;

Drive the automation of processes to increase throughput and maximize the financial return on products;

Build, develop and manage operational leaders capable of carrying out needed strategies, improving employee relations and leverage the potential of employee involvement;

Assess talent and builds bench-strength, and succession plans;

Develop contingency plans and capabilities for operations continuity in emergency situations;

Provide meaningful performance measurements for both short and long term operational measures;

Drive internal and external communications to ensure consistent employee focus on short and long-term objectives;

Support and ensures compliance with ASSA ABLOY Canada policies and procedures and regulatory agencies, while promoting the Corporate Code of Conduct;

Promote a safe workplace through systemic and proactive safety and environmental health practices and processes.

Candidate Requirements:

Proven ability to develop and deploy lean distribution systems;

Technical skills in Lean Distribution techniques, Kaizen, Employee Involvement, Process Improvement, inventory control, freight and distribution, capacity and manpower planning, management and scheduling;

Proven effectiveness of customer service and team orientation skills;

Extensive use of ERP systems in for distribution and order processing operations;

Demonstrates a leadership presence which conveys direction, conviction, sense of urgency, and clarity around goal attainment;

Ability to plan strategically while performing the day-to-day tactics of leading operations, and paying attention to detail;

Strong analytical skills that enable him/her to assess, quantify, and resolve operational issues and trends;

Proven ability for effective and systemic problem analysis and resolution at strategic and functional levels;

Successful track-record of contributing to the establishment of a prosperous culture via demonstrated operational leadership.

Business orientation and willingness to be a “roll-up-the-sleeves” doer;

A self-starter with a strong work ethic and an energetic style; sets the example and creates an environment of high expectations;

 

Experience & Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related technical field of study.  A Masters/MBA is highly preferred.

Years of experience are not as critical as the quality of experience.  Nevertheless, a candidate should have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive operational leadership.

Leading integrated operations that include distribution, customer service and inventory control areas;

Management and leadership skills in identifying and assembling teams to drive results;

Creating and implementing successful business strategies;

Superior people management skills that encourage the development of employees through coaching and mentoring, regular performance reviews, feedback, holding self and others accountable, and provides appropriate & effective recognition; 

A track record of developing lean strategies that achieved positive and quantifiable results;

Experience in ERP implementation.
